Our School

We are located at South Metro Vineyard Church in Burnsville, Minnesota.

We offer before and afterschool care. (8-9 am and 2:30-4:30 pm)

I believe a microschool provides a combination of home-school style learning with a more social experience. Kindergarten through 5th grade students are in a "one-room schoolhouse" environment. Students will receive instruction in whole groups, but mostly small groups and one on one each day. They will enjoy project-based learning, student-driven research, collaborative experiences, seasonally appropriate lessons, STEM,  and opportunities for creativity. We do not consider ourselves an academically rigorous program, but allow learners to go as deep as they desire into topics they are curious about.

Our school will be intentional in getting outside for at least 25% of each day. Some outdoor time will be free exploration and some will be structured time. I believe younger elementary students need a lot more play and movement in their day as well as time to learn in nature. This vision of creative, hands-on learning without all of the traditional pressures has become an obsession for me. I love the idea of being able to tailor education to each child based on what they need. Education is not a one-size-fits-all and in our school, we recognize the uniqueness of each student. There will not be striving to meet standards, but nurturing and guiding children when they are ready. We have chosen a few different homeschool curriculums that we believe will create the best experience for Wild Haven students.

We desire to disciple children in Christ, develop their unique gifts and talents, and prepare them to understand and share God's love.  We want kids to be excited about learning the word of God and become world changers. We love to use music and movement to improve retention for all learning, especially scripture.

We are currently enrolling students in grades K-5 for Fall 2024 with a max of 25 students. There will be 2 full-time teachers. Check out "Our Team" on the "Our Story" page to learn more. We are also looking forward to parent volunteers in our school days. Our school will meet 4 days a week (Monday-Thursday) from 9am-2:30pm. Our school calendar will begin September 3, then break for Christmas with an extended break through January. School will resume Feb 3rd with May 30th being our last day of school. The January break will allow for travel, family time, and/or staying warm during the cold month in MN.

Our location is ideal for exploring the outdoors. We will meet Monday-Thursday at South Metro Vineyard Church in Burnsville.  There is a park next door to the church with plenty of space to play and explore! (53 acres) We also plan to organize monthly field trips, nature trail hikes, and visits to local farms. Once a semester we plan to meet for a nature day at Lebanon Hills, which will include lessons from a naturalist.

Families will register in their city as "homeschooling and hiring a licensed teacher". This will  permit flexibility for your family to decide how many days you want your child to attend.
